3-Ingredient Dump Cake

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep the Oven and Pan

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or a little butter.

2. Layer the Pineapple

Pour the entire can of crushed pineapple (including the juice) into the bottom of the prepared dish. Use a spatula to spread it out into an even layer.

3. Add the Cake Mix

Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the pineapple. Use a fork to gently level the powder, making sure it covers the fruit completely. Do not stir.

4. Top with Butter

Place thin slices of butter over the entire surface of the cake mix. Try to cover as much of the dry powder as possible to ensure a golden, crispy crust. (Alternatively, you can drizzle melted butter evenly over the top).

5. Bake to Perfection

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when the top is bubbly and has turned a beautiful golden brown.

Pro Tips for the Best Dump Cake

  • Check for Dry Spots: About halfway through baking, check the top of the cake. If you see any large patches of dry flour, use a spoon to gently nudge a bit of butter or pineapple juice over it.

  • Add Texture: For an authentic Amish touch, sprinkle 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts over the butter layer before baking.

  • The Best Toppings: Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream, a sprinkle of powdered sugar, or a large scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

How to Store and Reheat

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, simply pop a slice in the microwave for 20 seconds to restore that “just out of the oven” buttery texture.
