Tips for the Perfect Bake

How to Avoid Common Mistakes

To ensure your casserole looks exactly like the one in the picture, follow these expert tips:

Don’t Overcook the Pasta If you are using frozen ravioli, do not boil them first. The moisture from the sauce will cook the pasta perfectly in the oven. If you boil them first, they will likely turn to mush during the baking process.

Cover, Then Uncover For the first 20 minutes, bake the dish covered with foil. This creates a steam chamber that cooks the ravioli through. For the last 10–15 minutes, remove the foil to let the cheese bubble and develop those gorgeous brown toasted spots.

The “Resting” Period As tempting as it is to scoop into it immediately, let the casserole sit for 5–10 minutes after it comes out of the oven. This allows the sauce to thicken slightly, ensuring your plate isn’t a puddle of liquid.

Variations to Try:

  • The Veggie Boost: Stir in some fresh baby spinach or sautéed mushrooms between the layers.

  • The Protein Powerhouse: Add a layer of cooked Italian sausage or ground turkey.

  • The Creamy Twist: Dollop small spoonfuls of ricotta cheese between the ravioli layers for extra richness.
